Dreams and Foggy Thinking

World_of_the_intellect_6xu6t.jpg

The keys to dream recall are gaining awareness of the dream while the dream is occurring, and applying a sufficiently quiet level of awareness so that your retrieval of the dream is not derailed by your thoughts. I want to focus on the second of these: learning to think quietly...

If you'd like to learn more about dreams, visit mindstrengthbalance.com, where I sell books, offer free posts, and periodically offer classes on sleeping and dreams.

“A busy mind is full of thoughts, a blissful mind is full of ideas… a conclusive mind cannot be a creative mind.”

Consilience, Reason and Emotion

koi-fish-yin-yang.jpg

The virus is a lesson in the reconciliation of opposites and the shepherding of resources.

I've collected my pieces on COVID-19 into a book that follows the virus's public appearance, my experience with it, and its effect on science and government. Most of all, the book is a hypnotic learning tool to strengthen immunity and spirit.

Where does the virus fit in our ecology? What have we done to create this ecology, and what can we do about it?

This is the final chapter.

The rationalist in me would like to say that developing a sustainable ecology is a practical problem, but it's suspect not. It is a spiritual problem, as it certainly is for those who revere the earth. It certainly requires of people something more than a rational commitment. It is spiritual in the sense that spirit motivates action.

Salvation is not a reward for the righteous, its is a gift for the guilty..” Steve Lawson

COVID-19 and Spirit

Caspar_David_Friedrich_Wanderer.jpg

“Think of the earth as a living organism that is being attacked by billions of bacteria whose numbers double every forty years. Either the host dies, or the virus dies, or both die.”
― Gore Vidal

Maybe all parasites feel entitled to their hosts. You wouldn’t feel entitled if you were at a loss whenever you went out of balance, you’d recognize your role. I’d like to say this virus experience will teach us something about our own parasitic relationships.

...

I’ve created a guided visualization called Spirit and Reason that explores what we know in order to find greater peace in the state of not knowing; to be more settled, quiet, and relieved in both the immediate present, and with regard to existential questions, also.

This piece, COVID-19 and Spirit, is an introduction to that piece, Spirit and Reason.

"Our imagination is struck only by what is great; but the lover of natural philosophy should reflect equally on little things."
— Alexander von Humboldt

Poor Sleep is an Addiction

sleepless_stress.jpg

Your sleep problems are in your mind, but, if you're like most people, you don't want to hear it.

Everyone appreciates good sleep, but few people will put themselves at risk to get it.There is something subtle going on here because sleep is something which you work toward indirectly.

Good sleep is a consequence of certain habits, just as bad sleep is. The habits are cognitive, they pertain to how you think. Thinking habits are the root of all addictions

In this piece, I make the argument that you must view your sleep problems as an addiction. I have a solution: my book and my online course. You can find information about the book and the course by clicking here.
